Finding A Good Cigar Lighter

Despite the fact that the social trend in the United States is for people to give up smoking or or to not pick it up entirely, that the rate of smoking is declining, cars are still made with cigarette lighters. All cars have this built in, whether or not the buyer is a smoker or not. One reason for this, is that cigarette lighters are used for plugging in chargers for cellphones or the like. If you need to swap out an old one, you may want to check to see if it takes a special type of lighter.

The cigarette lighter works by generating a small electrical charge. This charge can be used to heat up metal coils in the lighter plug so you can use it as a cigar lighter. This same small electrical charge can also be used to charge electronic devices like GPS units and cellphones.

Replacing the plug in the cigar lighter is easy. All you need to do is to pop out the plug and take it to an auto shop that sells accessories and other easily replaceable pars. Here you can compare your old one cigar lighter plug with the ones on sale at the shop, just to make sure you purchase a compatible replacement. To ensure that the replacement works, you just need to turn the key to engage the battery and this will supply enough power activate it. To use it, just have to touch some paper or a cigar to the cigar lighter and if it singes it, then it is all good.

If the replacement plug of the cigar lighter is not working, then the paper will not singe anything. If it does not, then the replacement plug is not at fault. There is probably something wrong with the cigar lighter socket itself. There could be faulty wiring or the fuse could be blown. Typically the fuses are easily labeled and it is easy to swap out the old one for the new. If it is not labeled, then you need to check out the manual for further information. Once the fuse has been replaced, you can test it the same way as you test the new plug.

If replacing the fuse does not work then you may need to check the wiring for the cigar lighter. Checking and replacing the wiring is considerably more complex than replacing the fuses and the cigar lighter plug. If you have not had experience with replacing car wiring, you will want to take your car to an auto garage and have experts to look at the wiring for the cigar lighter. Other than the wiring, replacing a car cigar lighter is very simple.
